Memorial Day Is A Holiday To Reflect!

If you want to be grateful to a soldier, first be deserving.” Editor Bob

Memorial Day is on the 29th of May. It is a day to commemorate the soldiers who gave up their lives for the country. Even though it is a solemn event, it is an awaited break for the assiduous Americans. It is a beautiful summer weekend. Most of the Americans like to spend some quiet family time, they almost feel obligated to leave town. I especially like to be in a snooze mode or enjoy meeting my friends in my backyard especially Fred, the Vietnamese war veteran and get awed by the stories of courage and sacrifice.

As a child I remember it was more eventful for me. I would begin the day watching the parade of soldiers and armed forces veterans along with a brass band, fife and drum corps marching by, from Court Street to the Pine Hill Cemetery where they laid the flowers on the graves of those who died in the wars. “The parade represents togetherness,” the voice of my teacher still resonates in my ears. The custom of flying the flag at half staff until noon and then raise it to the top of the staff until sunset was exciting for me as a student. The feeling of being a part of something greater than me and something good was enthralling.

Memorial Day fills our hearts with gratefulness and love for the highest level of surrender and service which is possible. Memorial Day is not just a holiday or a day to remember and honor our heroes but to embrace the responsibility to be deserving enough for such a sacrifice. It is a day to reflect upon ourselves. Responsibility is the ability and wisdom to respond to any given challenge positively and constructively.

Be selective in entertaining any thought in your mind. Because the thoughts manifest inadvertently. As Martin Luther rightly said, “You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say.

My dear friends and readers let’s take a simple pledge to be true to ourselves and spread cheer and joy. From past 2 decades this intent has driven me every single day to be with you all and share my life’s experiences and create warm greetings for you to share with your loved ones.

Memorial Day wishes!

Be good! Stay Happy! Spread Cheer!
